The vision behind the ISCCN is to improve the profile of CCN as a speciality across all ages and promote the discipline through public advocacy, fostering networking, and acting as a hub for information sharing. This will lead to career opportunities and mentoring, as well as leadership training and professional development.
In 1998, it was felt that “the time has come for nephrologists and intensivists to join forces in a coherent new academic structure called Critical Care Nephrology”. We now think that the stage is set for our society where the multidisciplinary nature of CCN can thrive under a single umbrella. The time of such an International Society of Critical Care Nephrology is now. To that end, in October 2023, the official paperwork was completed and signed in Stresa, Italy, and the society is now official, with Blood Purification being the journal arm of the society, which we hope will bring great mutual benefits. As of January 1st 2025, the ISCCN will no longer be a call to arms but will be a reality open to membership.
Please come and join us, and together, we can shape the future of critical care nephrology.
